I’m attempting to fit my blog back into my increasingly busy schedule. Most of these updates are roughly from the past month to this week. I will attempt to go back to once a week but it could vary and be closer to monthly as my schedule changes.
Following the Saints Across the Sea
I’ve started an extended research project focused on the immigrants sailing from Liverpool to New Orleans. This is the route most Saints took between 1840 and 1855. It is estimated that 50,000 to 60,000 saints took this route. I'm currently through 1846 and have documented 7,269 immigrants. I think it’s interesting to note that almost half of those immigrants were from just the year 1846. At the end of my research I will do an in depth statistical analysis of the data I’m collecting from multiple sources and publish the research in an academic style book.
Speaking, Teaching, and Growing My Genealogy Network
My next seminar is November 20th with the Clark County Nevada Genealogical Society. I got recognized by FamilySearch’s regional manager of the southwest area, which felt pretty good. My skills have been recognised by other people in the southwest area this year as well. In relation to seminars, I was not accepted to teach at rootstech 2025. They did encourage me to strengthen my portfolio by recording my seminars this year and reapplying for 2026. The goal for this year is to teach once a month. We’re also working on a partnership with the Clark County Library District to teach free workshops and seminars. I have a business call to discuss the details of that this week.
Classes, Certificates, and Next Steps
My current classes are keeping me busy. I’m enrolled in Introduction to Research Methodology, Professional Writing, and a core class. I find myself writing up to 1,500 words a week for my professional writing class. Next semester I will be in evidence analysis which is my final class of my first certificate. Afterwards, I will move onto genetics and advanced genealogy techniques.
Digitizing Services
I'm currently promoting my digitizing services less, I'm still accepting orders so please reach out if you have any digitizing needs. I recently did an order of 2 VHS tapes for a family in california, both tapes were in Spanish which was a neat experience as everything else I do is in English.
